Sophia’s research focuses on (affordable) housing policy, housing activism and citizen housing and policy preferences in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Her dissertation project, titled “The (Local) Politics of Housing,” investigates the drive behind housing activism through the evaluation of the intensity of preferences and the power structure in the current legal and legislative system for the politics of housing. In addition, she also works on how the incident of Grenfell Tower Fire changes different resident groups’ sense of belonging to neighborhood and planning to stay by using the Understanding Society data in the UK. She also works on how energy crises can exacerbate the housing affordability crisis in terms of increasing the rent and energy burden of household spending.
