Although it is not required, the MacMillan Center suggests that Kempf applications be submitted with cooperation and support of a Council, Committee, or Program of the MacMillan Center. If you would like for the European Studies Council to support your Kempf application, we ask that you kindly submit a proposal and a budget to us to email@example.com on or before February 15, 2019, so that we have time to review it and complete a letter of support before the application deadline. For conferences or for lecture series, it is ideal to have these go through ESC. Here is a general template of a budget to include as part of a proposal. The Edward J. and Dorothy Clarke Kempf Memorial Fund supports faculty in organizing on-campus conferences, workshops, and seminar series on international topics in their fields of interest. Preference will be given to focused workshops on topics directly related to the current research interests of the convening faculty member.
Kempf funds are decided during the Spring term for activities to be held during the following academic year. Please look ahead and plan adequately for 2019-2020 so that the full range of requests can be thoroughly evaluated.

Kempf Fund Guidelines for the 2019-2020 Academic Year
1) Kempf funds may be used for international conferences, workshops, colloquia, and seminar series held at Yale, more specifically “all necessary expenses of selecting and inviting speakers, paying stipends, transportation and maintenance, and arranging, announcing and conducting of such conferences and publishing their papers and essential proceedings.” Kempf funds may not be used to support off-campus events or travel to such events.
2) It is advisable but not required that you submit your proposal in cooperation with a Council, Committee or Program of The MacMillan Center, in which case you should include their letter of support. The MacMillan Center will also consider proposals that are not strictly tied to one MacMillan Center unit. The MacMillan Center will not consider proposals primarily from students who are organizing an event with some degree of faculty support.
3) If you do not receive the full amount of your request from the MacMillan Center-allocated Kempf funds, please do not approach the Provost’s Office for additional funds. On the other hand, both the MacMillan Center and the Provost’s Office urge you to supplement your Kempf application with other funds, including funds from outside Yale.
4) If you are awarded Kempf funds, it is your responsibility to monitor the expenditure of the funds, and you alone are responsible for over-expenditures. Kempf funds that you are awarded but do not use due to change of plans, overfunding, etc., will revert to the MacMillan Center. If you are awarded Kempf funds, your award letter will provide information concerning the appropriate acknowledgements, publicity, accounting, etc. All questions regarding the monitoring and finances of your award should be submitted to Rahima Chaudhury, Director for Finance and Administration, The MacMillan Center at 203-432-4144 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
