MD-Ph.D Student

Matthew Ponticiello is a first year MD-PhD student at Yale University hoping to pursue his PhD through the School of Public Health. This past summer Matthew began working in the Altice Lab, studying the implementation of prison-based methadone programs in eastern Europe and Central Asia. Most recently, Matthew has been working on a qualitative analysis to understand how criminal subculture in Ukranian prisons impacts drug use within prison walls and influences uptake of prison-based methadone treatment programs. Within this qualitative analysis, Matthew has also begun to explore how displacement of Ukranian prison populations due to the Russian invasion is shaping methadone uptake.
