My interests cover Imperial Latin literature, with a special focus on the Neronian Age. In particular, I engage with the question of how ancient philosophical texts make use of contemporary literature, and, in turn, how literature incorporates and reflects philosophical ideas. The central role of Classical literature in the development of European thought is a core part of my research, especially the so-called Neostoic movement in Early Modern northern Europe. Other research interests include twentieth-century continental literary theory such as reader-response criticism, and its possible application to antiquity.
