Cynthia Kok works on the material culture of global trade in an early modern Dutch world. She is interested in natural history and specimen collecting, crafting under European colonial governance, and material practices influenced by cultural encounters. Her recent research considers how trade facilitated expanded material literacy and how materials served as a site for reimaging the world.
