Her doctoral project at Yale focuses on seventeenth century Ottoman North Africa and the early modern Mediterranean, with an emphasis on cultural and commercial exchanges between Europe and Ottoman Regencies: Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli. She holds an MA degree from Istanbul Şehir University with a thesis examining the Ottoman-Spanish diplomatic relations in the eighteenth century. Her research was funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, the Cervantes Institute, the European Union Lifelong Learning Program, Turkish Cultural Foundation in Istanbul, and Istanbul Şehir University. Prior to Yale, she worked as a manuscript archivist and curator in Süleymaniye Manuscript Library in Istanbul, one of the richest manuscript libraries in the Islamic world.
