Axel is a junior in Saybrook College pursuing the combined BA/MA History degree, a BA in Global Affairs, and a Certificate of Advanced Language Study in Russian. Through his graduate classes, he has researched geostrategy during the 19th century Anglo-Russian Great Game and Peter I’s military reforms during the Great Northern War. He organizes events on European and Russian foreign policy as the co-president of Yale’s chapter of the Alexander Hamilton Society. Within the society, he led the Spring 2023 cycle of the Nicholas J. Spykman fellowship, which focused on the evolution of Anglo-American, German, and Russian grand strategy. Beyond Yale, Axel researches 18th century French military strategy as a Research Assistant at the Hudson Institute. He speaks French, Russian, and Spanish, and has studied Italian.
