Apply for a Charles A. Ryskamp Travel Grant

January 18, 2019

Are you a Yale Senior researching for your thesis? Does it have something to do with the long eighteenth century British world? We can help!

Apply today for a Charles A. Ryskamp Travel Grant for research at the Lewis Walpole Library. Our focused collection of eighteenth-century books, manuscripts, ephemera, prints and drawings, and decorative arts support a wide range of topics in the humanities. Did you know we have arguably the best collection of eighteenth-century British graphic satire outside the UK? Or that we have nearly half the traceable volumes from Horace Walpole’s library?

The Charles A. Ryskamp Travel Grant is awarded on a competitive basis to a Yale College senior whose senior essay project would benefit from extended use of the Lewis Walpole Library’s collections.

The grant provides funds for regular travel during the academic year to Farmington in support of senior essay research in the library’s collections, and, as necessary, occasional overnight accommodation in an eighteenth-century house on the library’s campus.

The library’s staff will be available for research consultation and guidance throughout the year.

Members of the Yale College class whose senior essays or projects would benefit from research conducted at the Lewis Walpole Library are invited to apply.
