The core of the Agrarian Studies Program’s activities is a weekly colloquium organized around an annual theme. The 2017-2018 theme is “Hinterlands, Frontiers, Cities, and States: Transactions and Identities.”

Madeleine Reeves is a senior lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester and Editor of Central Asian Survey. She seeks to contribute to a critical anthropology of the post-Soviet state through a consideration of place, territory, transnational migration and border work, based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
