Music History, Ph.D.  ‘22

Henry Balme is a PhD student in Music History from Munich, Germany. Henry holds degrees in Music from City, University of London (BMus), and in Musicology from the University of Oxford (MSt). His Master’s thesis, supervised by Laura Tunbridge, examined the almanac Der Blaue Reiter (1912) both from an art- and music-historical perspective by setting up a cross-disciplinary analysis of Schoenberg’s Lied Herzgewächse and Kandinsyk’s cover illustration of the publication. His current interests pertain to interdisciplinary approaches in music research, especially within the field of opera studies. When not buried amongst books and scores, he enjoys learning French, seeing treasures from the Yale film archive at the Whitney Humanities Center and going to art galleries and concerts.
