Evan Hochstein is a senior pursuing a B.A./M.A. in Linguistics with interests in psycho- and neurolinguistics. Besides Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Hindi, he has studied Russian for several years and with the support of a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship. His language study has allowed him to conduct uniquely crosslinguistic research on animacy in Russian and other languages. He is interested in Russian for its aspectual, case, and gender systems and the diverse people and cultures that share Russian across Eurasia.

Outside of his interests in Russian, Evan is an active member of the Linguistics department. He spent two summers and an academic year working with the Blackfoot Lab at Yale to create a database to support Blackfoot language research and revitalization. For four years, he has coached students to compete in the North American Computational Linguistics Open (NACLO), most recently as the chair of NACLO at Yale. In his free time, he plays the carillon as a member of the Guild of Carillonneurs.
